Theory — 4 loại "article" và 3 quy tắc vàng

Articles = a / an / the / (zero — không dùng gì). Đây là lỗi phổ biến nhất của học viên tiếng Việt trong IELTS Writing, vì tiếng Việt KHÔNG có article.

Cứ 5 câu, học viên VN sai ít nhất 1 article → mất Grammatical Range dần dần.

3 Quy tắc vàng để quyết định

Có phải đếm được (countable)?
├─ Không → không dùng "a/an" (dùng "the" nếu cụ thể, không dùng gì nếu chung)

Quy tắc 1 — Dùng A / AN khi nào?

"A / an" = một cái nào đó, nhắc lần đầu, hoặc không cụ thể.

• Dùng "a" trước phụ âm: “a car, a university, a European country”🔊🎤🌐
• Dùng "an" trước nguyên âm: “an apple, an hour, an honest man”🔊🎤🌐

⚠️ Chú ý âm THẬT, không phải chữ:

• "a university" (nghe /juː-/ như phụ âm)
• "a European country" (nghe /jʊə-/ như phụ âm)
• "an hour" (nghe /aʊə-/ như nguyên âm, "h" câm)
• "an honest man" (nghe /ɒn-/ như nguyên âm, "h" câm)

Ví dụ đúng:

• “There is a major concern about air pollution.”🔊🎤🌐 (nhắc lần đầu)
• “AI is an unprecedented technology.”🔊🎤🌐 (nhắc lần đầu, nguyên âm)
• “He is a university professor.”🔊🎤🌐 (u nghe /juː/ = phụ âm)

Quy tắc 2 — Dùng THE khi nào?

"The" = cụ thể, cả 2 bên đều biết đang nói về cái nào.

Quy tắc 3 — KHÔNG dùng article (zero article) khi nào?

Không dùng gì cả khi:

• Danh từ số nhiều chung chung: “Cars pollute the environment.”🔊🎤🌐 (KHÔNG "The cars")
• Danh từ không đếm được chung chung: “Water is essential for life.”🔊🎤🌐 (KHÔNG "The water")
• Tên riêng người: “Einstein was a physicist.”🔊🎤🌐
• Hầu hết tên quốc gia: “Vietnam, France, Japan”🔊🎤🌐 (trừ có "United", "Kingdom", "s")
• Bữa ăn: “have breakfast / lunch / dinner”🔊🎤🌐
• Môn học, môn thể thao: “study Mathematics", "play football”🔊🎤🌐
• Ngôn ngữ: “speak English, learn Chinese”🔊🎤🌐

Đối lập QUAN TRỌNG:

Quy tắc phụ: khi thêm "of + …" hoặc "in/at + place cụ thể" → thường phải thêm "the".

• Tên nước có "United" hoặc "s" cuối → luôn dùng "the" (the UK, the Philippines)
• Danh từ + "of + …" hoặc "in/at + …" → thường thêm "the" (the impact of X)
