Theory — 2-part question: dạng đề "khó nhất"

Ngoài 4 dạng đề chính (Opinion / Discussion / Problem-Solution / Adv-Disadv) học ở T2-01, IELTS còn có dạng đề GHÉP 2 câu hỏi — gọi là 2-part question (hoặc "direct question").

~15% đề IELTS Writing Task 2 thuộc dạng này — không hiếm, và học viên thường SAI vì chỉ trả lời 1 câu, quên câu còn lại = mất Task Response ngay 1 band.

🔍 Đặc điểm nhận diện

2-part question luôn có 2 câu hỏi RÕ RÀNG, thường kèm dấu chấm hỏi:

Ví dụ 1:

“Some people believe that social media has done more harm than good. What are the causes of this problem? What can be done to address it?”🔊🎤🌐

Ví dụ 2:

“In many countries, older people are working longer than in the past. Why is this happening? Is it a positive or negative development?”🔊🎤🌐

Ví dụ 3:

Bẫy: đôi khi 2 câu hỏi bị viết thành 1 câu dài:

Đây thực chất là 2 câu: (1) reasons, (2) what steps.

📝 Cấu trúc bài 4 đoạn cho 2-part question

Đoạn 1 — Introduction (45–55 từ)

An increasing number of older adults across most developed nations
are choosing to remain in the workforce well past traditional
retirement age. This essay will explore the principal reasons
behind this shift before arguing that, on balance, it represents
a predominantly positive development.

The primary driver of this trend is economic necessity. Rising
life expectancy has made retirement savings insufficient for many
older workers, while soaring housing costs and inflation have
eroded the purchasing power of fixed pensions. In Japan, for
instance, over 25% of adults aged 65–74 now remain in paid
employment — a figure that has doubled since 2000, largely due to
inadequate pension provision. Beyond financial pressures, many
older workers simply enjoy the mental stimulation, social
interaction, and sense of purpose that work provides, particularly
as improved health allows them to remain productive longer.

On balance, this development brings substantial benefits to both
individuals and wider society. Older workers contribute valuable
experience, mentorship, and institutional knowledge that younger
colleagues lack; they also reduce the burden on state pension

such as healthcare and infrastructure. Admittedly, extended working
lives can crowd out entry-level opportunities for younger workers,

positions.

In conclusion, older adults are working longer largely due to
financial pressures and personal preference, and this trend
benefits both individuals — through continued engagement and
income — and society, through preserved expertise and reduced
pension burdens.
